Your business,
on one page.
People trying to complete one repeatable task
A useful original template with clear software requirements
Product preview → checkout and delivery
Test the finished file with intended users before building a larger bundle.
Use this example to shape your own version. It is a planning scenario, not a claim of demand, approval, or guaranteed results.
Who this business suits
Best for someone with original expertise or a useful process they can turn into a template, checklist, workbook, or guide. A download still needs maintenance, customer support, and a way to reach buyers.
What could you actually sell?
Choose one specific task. A “small wedding photographer’s shot-list planner” is clearer than a “life-changing business bundle.” Define the file format, what is editable, software requirements, license, and who the resource will not suit. Use original material and properly licensed assets.
Test demand before building everything
- Interview people who currently perform the task. Find out what they use and where they get stuck.
- Make one useful sample page and show the intended file format. Do not claim the full product is ready when it is not.
- Test the finished small product with a few users before offering a larger paid version. Check whether the instructions work without live help.
A practical path to launch
Build the smallest useful version
Finish a narrow resource, check formulas and links, and remove placeholder content. A smaller product that works is preferable to a huge untested bundle.
Explain the purchase
Show previews, supported software, exactly what files are delivered, permitted use, and your support policy.
Connect checkout and delivery
Choose a suitable sales tool, test payment and download delivery, and keep a support route available. Decide how updates reach customers.
Improve from feedback
Track genuine questions, refund reasons, and whether buyers can use the resource. Update the file and version notes when you fix it.
How to sell digital products online
A checklist you can actually use.
Check off each step as you finish it. Your ticks stay in this browser when storage is available. They are not sent to Athena or synced across devices. Clearing browser data removes them.
Checking a box records your planning progress. It does not certify licensing, safety, tax compliance, or readiness to operate. Confirm requirements with the relevant authority for your actual business.
What to price before spending
Get local quotes for these cost groups. Separate one-time setup from ongoing bills, and identify which commitments are refundable. A generic startup-cost range cannot tell you what your specific launch will cost.
- One-time setup: equipment, content, business administration, and any required permissions.
- Ongoing delivery: time, software, insurance where relevant, direct costs, and support.
- Customer acquisition, taxes, refunds or cancellations, and a sensible operating reserve.
Write down who quoted each cost, what the quote includes, and when payment is due. Confirm the minimum viable setup before signing a long lease or buying equipment.
What the numbers might look like
A fictional creator sells a $19 planning template. Twenty sales would create $380 in revenue before platform fees, refunds, promotion, and taxes. A $4 per-sale cost leaves $300 before fixed costs and the creator’s time. Those twenty buyers are an assumption to test, not traffic that a new website automatically receives.
Gross revenue is not profit. Account for software, hosting, payment fees, marketing, refunds, insurance or permissions where relevant, and your own time. Customer acquisition is work, too.

business brief.
Replace the examples with your own idea. Keep this to business planning—leave out passwords, payment details, and private customer information. Answers save in this browser when available; they are not sent to Athena.
Clearing browser data removes saved answers. Different devices do not share your brief.
Ready for website help? Start a request and paste your brief →What your website needs
- Product page: audience, screenshots, contents, requirements, and price.
- Checkout and confirmation: a clear total and what happens after payment.
- Download/help page: file access, usage instructions, and contact route.
- Policies: license, privacy, refunds, and relevant consumer information.
Include clear contact information, a working mobile experience, and the policies your actual business requires. Test every form and payment or booking step before inviting customers.
How to find your first customers
Publish a practical tutorial that solves part of the problem and demonstrates how the resource works. Use an email list only with appropriate permission. Search content should match the specific task, such as a preparation checklist, rather than relying on “passive income” headlines. A marketplace can help test an offer before you pay for a custom store.
Mistakes worth avoiding
- Using unlicensed graphics or reselling material you do not own.
- Spending heavily on branding before testing whether the file is useful.
- Assuming a contact form can securely deliver paid downloads or enforce access.
Where Athena can help
Athena can design the product pages and quote a suitable storefront, payment, and delivery setup. Ecommerce and protected file delivery are separately scoped; the $199 and $499 service-site packages do not automatically include them.
Bring the idea, a few inspiration websites, and the action you want customers to take. We’ll help define a buildable scope and known ongoing costs. You do not need to buy hosting before asking us about the fit.
Discuss my website idea ↗Questions before you start
Is this passive income?
It can reduce repeated delivery work, but research, marketing, updates, refunds, and support still take time.
Do I need WordPress?
No. Your delivery, checkout, budget, and maintenance needs should drive the platform choice. Confirm that before buying hosting.
